My scholarship, a life-time chance
My Endeavour Award
I have completed my first semester of Master of Journalism at UTS. 6 months studying and living in Sydney yields lots of experiences for me. I was instructed by talented lecturers. I learn the new way of study in the best-equipped environment. I get used to the way of living in a developed country. I’m eager to adapt to the new life with much more comfort and automation. (My daughter loves to be here to have new friends and learn to speak English.)
What my family and I are enjoying is a dream. And the dream has come true thanks to ENDEAVOUR scholarship.
Now, I want to tell you one of my interesting study experiences.
It’s one of my important decisions to join in the film-making project for the Homeless People Legal Service with my Australian classmates. There’s so much difference from the job of TV journalists in Vietnam, where such projects as homeless one is financially assisted but never been made by students.
Here, we, the students took full responsibilities for a social project with the support of HPLS and teacher, Shannon. We started the project at zero as most of the team knew little about TV journalism. I myself master the TV process but had no knowledge of Sydney, not saying the homeless people. Just after 3 weeks, the team’s members show exceptional progress. Sometimes, we had to wake up early in the morning and work till afternoon. We felt starving as having no time for lunch. We spent the Easter day and many weekends in the Editing room for hours to complete the film.
We ended the HPLS documentary after nearly 1 month of working with shared responsibilities. The film was screened at the HPLS forum in April, 17, 2008 and available online of UTS and HPLS. The film received much welcome and appreciation from our teachers and HPLS members. We feel happy to successfully complete a good job and to do something meaningful for the homeless people.
Thanks UTS and Endeavour to give me a great chance to study and experience. My mind has been broadened and my soul has been enriched a lot. Now, I have a lot of friends in Sydney. Another semester has come to continue my trip knowledge in UTS and Sydney.
Here is what our HPLS documentary will look like.
